3 National Merit Semifinalists

Alabama School of Fine Arts has three recently named National Merit Semifinalists.

Today officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship ® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. Over 90% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar ® title.

Three Alabama School of Fine Arts seniors, Eesha Banerjee, Richard Rouco-Crenshaw, and Emily Willford, have been named as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Banerjee and Rouco-Crenshaw are in the math-science department and Willford is in the creative writing department. They qualified from among more than 1.5 million entrants nationwide who took the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
