Announcements For ASFA Students –Wednesday, March 4, 2020

Good morning!  These are your morning announcements.

Congratulations to Dance Department 11th grader Le’Ronnie Bussey who has been accepted into the Juilliard School Summer Dance Intensive Program in New York City.

 

High School singers and actors are invited to participate in a fun and educational workshop with performing artist and composer Moira Smiley and the vocal ensemble VOCO on this Sunday from 2:30 p.m. -4:30 p.m. Held in the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater,  participants will have vocal training and learn one of Moira's songs with body percussion. Participants also will get a FREE ticket for the Moira Smiley + VOCO concert entitled "The Voice is a Traveler" at which time participants will perform on stage during the concert! Eleventh grade Creative Writing students Raven Horn, Tessa McClinton, Kenzie Price, and Grace Sullivan will read their work in the Lecture Hall tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Please join us with permission from your specialty instructor.

 

There will be a FREE ACT workshop this Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 9am-11am at the UAB School of Health Professions, 1716 9th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233 in Room 224. Sponsored by College Admissions Made Possible. Eleventh graders are invited to attend. Register online.

 

The ASFA PTO Store has new merchandise and new hours: New hoodies with the ASFA logo are $45, sweatpants are $25 and T-shirts are $20.  The store is opened on the first and third Tuesday and Wednesday of each month from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Don’t forget to stop by.

 

Minority girls in grades 8-11 are invited to participate in a two-week college preparatory program known as At the Well Young Women’s Leadership Academy at Princeton University this summer. For more information about costs, dates and application information, go to www.atthewellconferences.org.

 

Reminder to 11th  Graders & Faculty: ACT Test Info

The 5 steps that all juniors must complete in order for Ms. Rutsky to write your college letter of recommendation are due next Friday, March 13th, which is only 1 week away. See the email account that you have registered in Scoir for a complete list of these tasks or email Ms. Rutsky if you need another copy.

Free ACT Online Prep

Check your ASFA email for instructions for how to access the free ACT practice questions, flashcards, game center, free mobile app for on-the-go reviewing and more paid for by the state to help you prepare for your upcoming ACT test. Email or see Mrs. Kennedy if you have any problems accessing the site.

MANDATORY PRE-GRIDDING for the ACT

All juniors will report to the Lecture Hall today at 10:45am to attend the mandatory pre-gridding session for the upcoming ACT. Bring #2 pencils please (no mechanical pencils). Pre-gridding will be finished in time for juniors to eat lunch and report to 6th period by 12:15pm.

ACT TEST DAY:

On next Tuesday, March 10, all juniors will take the ACT. Students are to report directly to the BJCC North Meeting Room at 7:55am. Testing should conclude around 1:15pm. More details soon.
