All schoolwork has transitioned to remote learning. Summer camps have been canceled. Faculty and staff are available through email. Announcements For ASFA Students – Friday, March 6, 2020

Good morning!  These are your morning announcements.

 

Congratulations to Creative Writing 11th grader Myra Grizzard and 8th grader Elizabeth “Egg” McClure, who recently competed in the state Poetry Out Loud competition. Myra won the statewide competition for original poetry. Egg won the regional anthology competition for recitation and placed second regionally in the original poetry category.

 

Congratulations to the ASFA MATHCOUNTS Team! The team of four Math/Science eighth graders (Eli Mrug, Anusha Singh, Rishi Yellamraju, Cynthia Liu) placed second at the chapter competition on last Saturday, February 29th. They will advance to the state level competition in Mobile on March 21st, where they will compete to be on the state team that will travel to the national competition in May. Six other students competed at the chapter level as individuals and also did very well.


The 2020 Cromwell Trust Scholarship application is due Monday, March 16th, 2020. This scholarship is open to those involved in creativity, no matter their age. There is a preference given for applicants from Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties and to those involved in performing arts. Out-of-state awards have been given, and all art forms and creative efforts will be considered  The application is available at the following website. Seniors: ASFA was in first place last week for FAFSA completion among small schools in Alabama, but Amelia L. Johnson High School snuck ahead of us and got to 100%. We need the last 5 seniors to complete your FAFSA so that we can get to 100%. We can do it, and you can get money for college!

 

Reminder to 11th  Graders & Faculty: ACT Test Info

The 5 steps that all juniors must complete in order for Ms. Rutsky to write your college letter of recommendation are due on next Friday, March 13th.  See the email account that you have registered in Scoir for a complete list if these tasks or email Ms. Rutsky if you need another copy.

 

ACT TEST DAY:

On this coming Tuesday, March 10, all juniors will take the ACT. Students are to report directly to the BJCC North Meeting Room at 7:55am. Testing should conclude around 1:15pm.
