Announcements For ASFA Students –Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Good morning!  These are your morning announcements.


Congratulations to Theatre Arts juniors Julius Shanks who placed 1st and Taylor Jackson who placed 2nd in the National August Wilson Monologue Competition on Saturday. They will now move on to compete nationally on May 4 at the August Wilson Theatre in New York. Theatre Arts teacher Susan McCain also took home the Award for Partnership, Pedagogy, and Performance.


Congratulations to Dr. Robert Janssen and the entire ASFA clarinet studio who participated in the UAB Clarinet Symposium this past weekend. Dr. Janssen directed the Green Clarinet Ensemble, performed on a recital and gave a presentation. Kah’lin Jordan (11) was selected to perform for the featured artist Dr. Chad Burrow (University of Michigan) in a masterclass. The other ASFA clarinetists attending were Andrew Robertson (9), Jasmine Young (8) and Voe Elle Jones (7).


Congratulations to the following 10 Math and Science Department students who competed in the Alabama Middle School Science Bowl competition in Mobile on Saturday.  ASFA teams placed 1st and 4th overall. Members of Team 1 will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to represent Alabama at the National Science Bowl from April 30 to May 4.

Team 2 was first place in their racket and 4th place overall. They beat several top teams in their pool, including Discovery from Huntsville that won state and went to the national competition last year.

Creative Writing seniors Hannah Bray and McKenzie Hosey will be reading from their work in the Lecture Hall on Friday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m., with a reception to follow in the lobby.


Creative Writing 10th grade students—Ben Lasseter, Goodman Murphy-Smith, Madaha Lewis, Haley Pate, and Micki Ravizee will read from their work in the Lecture Hall at 3:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 19. Please join us with permission from your specialty instructor.


Prom tickets are on sale starting this week. The prices are $50 during March and $65 during April and at the door.  Please see a member of the Junior Class Council to buy a ticket. (Cash only accepted.)


If you plan to advertise events on campus that includes posting signs, you must first get approval of the signs from Mrs. Strickland or Mr. Marble in Student Support Services on the 3rd floor.  The signs must be approved for specific locations on our campus and will need to be put up with an approved tape that you can retrieve from them. 

The ASFA PTO Store has new merchandise and new hours: New hoodies with the ASFA logo are $45, sweatpants are $25 and T-shirts are $20.  The store is opened on the first and third Tuesday and Wednesday of each month from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Don’t forget to stop by.
